Fae warrior magic
Ice and Wind
Hoarfrost, killing cold, and cyclones called down out of a clear sky — the raw Fae element Rowan Whitethorn has spent three centuries honing into a weapon. It runs coldest where he grieves hardest, and the control is the whole point, because the power hardened around what he couldn't save.
Frost, wind, and worse
It is elemental Fae magic in its bluntest form: hoarfrost that climbs across stone, cold sharp enough to stop a heart, and storms and cyclones summoned at a thought. Rowan wields it like the warrior he is — precise, economical, nothing wasted. Where Aelin's fire wants to level a field, his ice wants to end the fight in one clean strike.
Three centuries of it
Every Fae is born to an element, and this one is Rowan's by blood — but blood only hands over the raw gift. What makes it lethal is time: three hundred years in Maeve's service, war after war, sharpening a natural affinity into something closer to a blade. The Cadre are all built this way — ancient warriors whose magic has been honed so long it moves like instinct.
Fed by grief and control
This is not wild magic — it answers to discipline, and the discipline is exactly where it costs. Rowan's power hardened around the death of his mate, Lyria, the loss he was away serving Maeve to prevent, until the cold in the man and the cold in the magic stopped being two separate things. He keeps it leashed for the same reason he keeps himself leashed; by now the two are the same act.
The ice to her fire
In a series that runs on fire, Rowan is the counterweight — ice against Aelin's flame, control against wildfire, and eventually the mate whose steadiness teaches hers to aim. Their magics balance because their wounds do. Put the two elements in one room and you get either the most disciplined force on the continent or the end of it.

The ice that answers her fire
Raw Fae elemental magic — hoarfrost, killing wind, and cyclones — honed three centuries in Maeve's service and hardened around a grave.
-
The hawk at Mistward
Maeve sends her blood-sworn warrior across the sea to judge the lost heir, and he arrives as a white-tailed hawk and three centuries of disdain. He meets her raw fire with killing cold, and refuses to let her burn herself hollow.
-
The mate he lost
While the blood oath kept him at Maeve's side, his mate was hunted down and killed, and he was not there. He carved the story of her death across his face in the Old Language and let the grief freeze him solid for a century.
-
The carranam bond
His magic and Aelin's answer each other — carranam, able to pour power back and forth without end. His ice becomes the anchor that lets her burn down to the bottom of her well and climb back out.
-
The oath to Aelin
He breaks three hundred years of service to Maeve and swears the blood oath to Aelin instead. The deadliest warrior of Doranelle binds himself, by choice, to a young queen and her fire.
-
Killing cold at war
At the height of his craft the ice is a weapon of scale: hoarfrost that stops a heart, wind that flays, cyclones that scour a legion off a field. Three centuries taught him precision, and he spends every scrap of it on Morath.
-
Ice and fire at Orynth
In the last battle for the city he fights at Aelin's side, his cold laced through her flame, the two powers moving as a single storm turned on the dark. The counterweight the fire always needed, finally in the fight it was made for.
