Of the Thirteen · The First to Fall
Imogen Blackbeak
The books never tell us who she was. She went first anyway.
Of the Thirteen. Dorian noticed that she kept to herself and smiled at nobody. Nobody went into the Yielding ahead of her.

What we actually get
Here is the complete file. She is one of the Thirteen, she rides with the Blackbeak host, and Dorian Havilliard — passing through, noticing things the way he does — clocks that she keeps to herself and does not smile at anyone. That is the lot. No chapter of her own, no backstory, no scene that is hers. Fearless and loyal to Manon is as far as the description goes, because that is as far as the books go.
Rank and file of the deadliest coven alive
The Thirteen were raised together from witchlings, trained together and aged together into the most disciplined coven the Ironteeth ever produced. Imogen is one of the ten below the top three — no rank, no command, and still one of the most dangerous witches on the continent, still flying the formation that won the War Games, still one of thirteen who would eventually all choose the same thing on the same afternoon. Being unwritten is not the same as being minor.
First
At Orynth, with Abraxos hurt and Manon put out of the way so she cannot stop them, the Thirteen fly at the last witch tower. Somebody has to go first. A Yielding is a one-time detonation of everything a witch is, and going first means going before there is any evidence at all that it will be enough — no tower coming down yet, no proof, nothing to work from except eleven witches behind her who have already decided to follow. Imogen went first. Then Lin, then Ghislaine, then all of them.

What she loves
She holds the line.
Imogen loves the same things every one of the Thirteen loves — she just says less about it.
The line
The place she stands so the sister behind her doesn't have to. She does not step off it.
The coven
Twelve others who'd hold it the same way for her, and have.
The Wing Leader
Manon in front, the sky ahead. That's an order she'll take every time.
Her wyvern
Half a ton of teeth and leather that answers to her and no one else.
The Thirteen
Imogen is a sentinel of the most elite coven the Ironteeth ever bred, and the coven is the whole of it. Five centuries of war-breeding left the Blackbeaks with iron teeth, iron nails, and the one thing the cruelty never managed to cut out — each other. When the Thirteen gave the Yielding at Orynth, Imogen was one of the twelve. That is who she loved, and how much.
Of the Thirteen
The least written of them, and the first to go.
-
Among the Thirteen
One of Manon's elite coven, riding with the Blackbeak host through the Ferian Gap trials and everything that came after them.
-
Noticed by Dorian
He marks that she keeps to herself and smiles at nobody. It is the only direct characterisation she is given in five books.
-
First to Yield
With Abraxos hurt and Manon unable to stop them, Imogen goes first at the witch tower — ahead of any proof that the coven's plan would work.

We're Caffeine and Curses. The Library started as my design research — I can't put Manon on a shirt without knowing which way the iron teeth snap — so we keep the notes here where everyone can use them. The pages are fan-made, not official; the licensed designs are in the shop.
