Rowan forces the shift — anger and pain the triggers — and teaches her about magic wells and the lethal cost of burnout; she nearly dies drawing past her limit, and he moves her into his own rooms to keep her breathing. Emrys's hearth-stories reveal her mother Evalin worked these same kitchens; Rowan tattoos the Endovier scars down her back. Then she says all of it out loud — Sam, the salt mines, the name Aelin Galathynius — and when Narrok's Valg force sieges the fortress, she burns a bridge of fire to save the cadre, is taken, and comes back reborn through the carranam blood-bond with Rowan, turning his ice into Valg-killing golden light.

Mistward is the hinge of the whole series — the place Celaena Sardothien, the mask, finally admits she's Aelin, the queen. It's not a triumphant setting; it's a kitchen and a training ring and a lot of failing in the cold. But that's the point: she becomes herself doing the dishes and getting knocked down, next to the one person who won't flinch at what she is. The carranam bond that starts here is the spine of everything after. She arrived a weapon someone else made. She left a person who chose her own name.
