The blade every rider carries
Rider's Daggers
“It's yours.”
Xaden Riorson — Fourth Wing
A physically fragile cadet out-thinking a room built to kill her — one blade at a time.
Twin daggers, carried in numbers, forged for a smaller grip. And when the enemy can't be burned or stabbed by anything ordinary, the only thing left that works.
Why blades
Small frame, sharp answer
Brittle joints, a scribe's build, a quadrant that expects her dead by the Parapet — none of it changes on the mat. So Violet doesn't fight the fight everyone else is having. She carries four daggers across the Parapet and finishes the year with twenty-four, wins her challenge matches with poison slipped in before anyone draws, and drives a blade into the Gauntlet wall to climb what her arms can't. The daggers aren't a flourish. They're the whole argument: leverage beats strength if you're precise enough about where you put it.
Black hilts, old runes
The pair Xaden made
Her signature set didn't come from the armoury. Xaden had them forged to fit her smaller hands, solid black hilts engraved with Tyrrish knots — the old, mythical runes of his homeland, each blade carved for a specific job. It's the most Xaden thing imaginable: no speech, no fuss, just a beautiful, lethal, perfectly weighted answer to a problem he never once mentioned he'd noticed.
The alloy
The one thing that kills venin
Venin shrug off dragon fire and ordinary steel. The single exception is a rare alloy — the same metal that powers the wardstones — and Xaden builds a forge at Aretia to smelt it into blades imbued with a rider's signare. Violet gets her first alloy pair at Athebyne. It turns a personal weapon into a war one: whoever controls the alloy controls the only edge that works, which is precisely why a fresh shipment goes missing the moment someone on the inside wants it to.

We're Caffeine and Curses. The Library started as my design research — I can't put a rider's daggers on a shirt without knowing the hilts are solid black and the engraving is Tyrrish knotwork — so we keep the notes here where everyone can use them. The pages are fan-made, not official; the licensed designs are in the shop.
