Mira's dragon — and, in the most literal way in the series, Violet's armour.

A huge green clubtail with a blunt-force tail and golden eyes, whose shed scales get worked into the corset that saves Violet's life more than once.

The armourer

Love, forged into scale.

Before Violet ever crosses the parapet, Mira arms her with leathers and a corset made from Teine's shed scales — armour that turns a killing blow into a bruise, more than once. In this family, the people who love you hardest are the ones who send you out armoured.

The one scar

Even the bond leaves a mark.

Mira survived three years in the quadrant with a single scar, and it came from her own dragon at Threshing. Teine is huge, and huge things leave a mark even when they choose you. Mira wears it like a signature.

The name

Called 'fire.' Coloured for reason.

Teine means fire, which is a small joke against the green — greens are the ward-minded, intellectual line, not the incendiary one. A guardian dragon with a firebrand's name, standing steady behind the family's shield.

Its rider, and the sister those scales protect.

The gift

A bond measured in protection, not page-time.

Teine's story is told through what the dragon gives. A huge green clubtail chooses Mira, marks her, and then arms the little sister who will never ride — the guardian pairing whose love shows up as armour, warnings, and wards rather than glory.

The Threshing
The huge green clubtail chooses Mira Sorrengail and leaves the one scar she'll carry for three years. A hard start to what becomes the steadiest bond in the family.

Mira has Teine's shed scales worked into armour for Violet — the gift that stands between a frail scribe's daughter and death across the parapet, and keeps standing there long after.

The shield that holds
Through the bond Teine relays battlefield warnings and extends Mira's wards — the guardian pairing behind Navarre's defences, and part of why a girl with bad joints keeps walking away from things that should have killed her.
