The Rukhin

Everyone who flies in these books is either a weapon or a rukhin. The difference is that a ruk gets to choose.

The rukhin — the ruk-riders of the southern continent, six clans of the Tavan Mountains who fly great eagles instead of wyverns. They keep their own stories, prize a clean shot, and cross an ocean to fight a war for people they have never met.
