Spring Court

A Court of Thorns and Roses

Spring Court

Eternal spring, roses that never brown, and the manor where Feyre's whole story begins. We didn't leave because we were scared of it. We left because we outgrew it.

The court where it all begins

Spring is the southernmost of Prythian's seven courts — the only one that touches the mortal wall. It's eternal spring here: roses that never brown, green that never fades, a manor full of masks. This is where the series opens and where Feyre lands first — a starving mortal huntress who kills the wrong wolf in the Western Woods and gets brought across the wall to answer for it. For a while it's the most beautiful place she's ever been. For a while that's enough. It doesn't stay enough. Spring is the court you fall for on page one and slowly, painfully outgrow — not because it ever turns frightening, but because safety here starts to feel a lot like a locked door. We remember loving it. We remember exactly when we stopped. Both are true, and the series never lets us off the hook for either.

The Spring Court

Who holds this court

A High Lord, his emissary, and a priestess nobody should have trusted. The first faces Feyre met — and the first lesson that beautiful and safe aren't the same thing.

HIGH LORDTamlinHigh Lord of Spring and the beast of the fairy tale — though the horns were never the problem. He loves the way a cage loves: completely, and with the door shut. We started here rooting for him. The series had other plans. Turns out, so did we.Enter Tamlin →
EMISSARYLucienEmissary of Spring: russet hair, a mechanical golden eye, and the first person in Prythian to treat Feyre like she was worth the trouble. Her first friend, our first favourite, and far too good for the court that ended up raising him.Enter Lucien →
HIGH PRIESTESSIantheHigh Priestess of Spring — all pale robes and gentle voice and a smile you learn to distrust exactly one scene too late. She worms her way in, then sells everyone out. We didn't clock her fast enough the first read. We clock her instantly now.Enter Ianthe →

Within Spring

Beautiful, and quiet in a way that takes a while to read as too quiet. The places Feyre knew first.

The Manor

The Manor

Tamlin's estate

Tamlin's estate, and Feyre's first real taste of the fae world — vaulted halls, a permanent masquerade nobody bothers to explain, and more beauty than a starving girl knew what to do with. Home, for a while. Then something closer to a very lovely locked room.

Enter The Manor

THE GILDED CAGE

When the fairy tale became the thing she had to escape

Spring gave Feyre everything and then wouldn't let her leave the house. That's the horror of it — no monster required.

Here's the turn that makes Spring hurt. Feyre goes Under the Mountain and comes back a survivor — haunted, hollowed out, needing room to put herself back together. And Spring, the court that once felt like rescue, meets all of that with walls. Tamlin's love doesn't turn cruel, exactly. It turns frightened, and frightened starts locking doors. He confines her for her own good. He plans a life she never agreed to. The most beautiful court in Prythian quietly becomes a very lovely place to disappear inside.

There's no villain in this scene. That's what makes it land. Nobody's twirling a moustache — a man who genuinely loves her is loving her straight into a cage and can't tell the difference. We watched Feyre go quiet and shrink herself to fit the space she was given, and a lot of us recognised something we'd have rather not.

So she leaves. And later, in the war, she comes back — not to be saved this time, but to take Spring apart from the inside. That's the arc this court exists to serve: the first place that ever felt like home, and the exact place she had to outgrow to become anyone at all.

Every court in Prythian is one season. Spring is the one that can never become anything else.

Think about what eternal spring actually means. No summer to grow into, no autumn to let go of, no winter to survive and come back from. Just one bright, blooming, unchanging note held forever. It's lovely. It's also the whole problem, written into the weather. Spring sits at the very edge of the map, the only court that touches the mortal wall — closest to the human world, and the least willing to let anything cross into it and change. That's the quiet tragedy the court is built on: a place so devoted to staying exactly as it is that it mistakes a locked door for keeping something safe. We don't come back to Spring because we fear it. We come back because it's the clearest picture in the series of what happens when love refuses to let anything grow — including the person it's holding.

We're Caffeine and Curses. The Library started as my design research — I can't put the Spring Court on a shirt without knowing those masks stayed on for forty-nine years — so we keep the notes here where everyone can use them. The pages are fan-made, not official; the licensed designs are in the shop.

Spring Court, answered

The court where it all starts.

Who is the High Lord of the Spring Court?

Tamlin — the 'beast' of the series' Beauty and the Beast opening, and the first High Lord Feyre meets.

Where does A Court of Thorns and Roses begin?

In the Spring Court. Feyre, a mortal huntress, is brought across the wall to Tamlin's manor after killing a faerie disguised as a wolf in the Western Woods.

Who is Lucien?

Tamlin's emissary and Feyre's first real friend in Prythian, recognisable by his russet hair and mechanical golden eye. He originally comes from the Autumn Court.

Why does Feyre leave the Spring Court?

After Under the Mountain, Tamlin's protectiveness hardens into confinement. Feyre leaves for the Night Court, and later returns during the war to dismantle Spring from within.

The prettiest door, and the one we were glad to leave.
