Who or what is The Suriel?

The Suriel is an ancient, court-unaligned faerie creature of Prythian — an oracle/seer older than the world itself — that is magically bound to answer truthfully any question asked of it once it has been trapped. In A Court of Thorns and Roses, Feyre snares one (luring it with a freshly killed chicken in a birch grove) to learn the truth about Tamlin, the blight, and Prythian; across the series it returns to aid her three times before being killed by Hybern's forces in A Court of Wings and Ruin. Far more than a plot device, it is ultimately revealed to have helped Feyre "not just for kindness... but because it was a dreamer."
