The Frozen Court · One of the Seasonal Courts of Prythian

Winter Court

A court of crystalline palaces and endless snow, where glacial elegance masks a grief that took decades to thaw.

Ruled by Kallias and Viviane — a lifelong, hidden love that survived Amarantha and snapped into a mating bond on the far side of the war.

The place

Glacial elegance

The Winter Court is locked in perpetual deep winter: tall, elegant palaces decorated with evergreens and warmed by roaring hearths, rising from frozen lakes and snowfields under a glacier-blue light. Travel is by carved sleighs pulled by velvet-antlered reindeer, whose wide hooves move steadily across the ice. Great white bears roam and guard the territory — armored in wartime — and white foxes serve as couriers, carrying messages in embroidered vests. Its emblem is a wolf rendered in ice shards, and its High Lord wears fur even in warmer courts, and a crown of ice.

The wound

Cold sorrow

Under the Mountain, after the Winter Court's citizens defied her, Amarantha had roughly two dozen of its High Fae children slaughtered and ordered a daemati to shatter their minds. Because Rhysand was her known daemati, the atrocity was misattributed to him — and Kallias blamed the Night Court for nearly fifty years. The true culprit was a different daemati under Amarantha's command; she let the blame fall on Rhysand so the subjugated High Lords would stay divided and never ally. Through it all, Viviane hid and shielded a small Winter Court city, sheltering refugees behind her concealment magic until the curse broke.

The thaw

A love that survives

Kallias loved Viviane his whole life but concealed it, fearing Amarantha would weaponize the bond — until, with the last of his power, he warned her and confessed, charging her to protect his people. After Amarantha's fall they married, and their mating bond snapped into place only on their first night together: friendship into marriage into bond, in that order. At the wartime High Lords' meeting in the Dawn Court, the truth of the children's deaths is finally spoken aloud; Viviane is the first to stand for alliance, and the Winter Court joins the war against Hybern.
