This is the twist Day is quietly built around, and half the ache of it is that we can see the entire thing and nobody inside the story can. Look at Helion, then look at Lucien, and the resemblance is right there — the colouring, the build, the particular brand of clever. Readers clocked it books before the page ever leaned in, trading the theory back and forth, and then the series quietly made it true: Helion and the Lady of Autumn loved each other once, and Lucien is Helion's son.

But that's the thing — it's true, and neither of them knows it. Lucien grew up as the seventh son of a father who despised him, punished and unloved in the cruelest house on the map, belonging to a father who was never even his. And a whole court of light away, Helion goes on being the brilliant, unbothered, endlessly charming Spell-Cleaver, with no idea the boy exists as his — no weight on him at all, because for him there's simply nothing there to feel.

So the weight is entirely ours. That's what makes it land: the court of a thousand secrets, and its single biggest one is a secret even from the man it belongs to. We carry it for both of them — the reunion that hasn't happened, the father who doesn't know he's a father, the son who spent a whole life starved of exactly what was sitting one court over.
