The Mortal Lands · The Hunting Woods Below the Wall
The Western Woods
A snow-locked wood at the edge of the mortal world — where a starving girl loosed an ash arrow at a wolf, and everything after uncoiled from a single shot.
Where it all started. One arrow. One wolf.
The snow-locked wood at the edge of the mortal lands, south of the Wall, just past the Archeron cottage. A starving girl, an ash arrow, a wolf too big to be a wolf. We know exactly which shot we mean.
The place · Snow and starving
The first ground we ever stood on.
Before the manor, before Velaris, before any of it — this. A dim, snow-choked forest on the mortal side of the Wall, walked in the dead of winter because the alternative was the Archerons going hungry. Feyre knew it the way only desperation teaches: the deer-trails, the frozen creek, light dying early under the trees. Not a beautiful place. A working place. A starving place, where every arrow had to count and ash cost more than gold.
The kill that opened the door
One wolf. One ash arrow. No way back.
This is where the doe became a wolf, the wolf became too large to be ordinary, and the ash arrow found it anyway. Andras. Spring Court, sent across the Wall, and his death is the blood-debt Tamlin comes to collect. The manor, Amarantha, the Cauldron, a High Lady — all of it uncoils from one shot fired in these trees. This is where the human girl ends and the rest of her begins. We'd loose it again.
Within the wood
