The Peregryns

Winged faerie · The Dawn Court

The Peregryns

“If the palace above the Court of Nightmares had been crafted of moonstone, this was made from … sunstone.”

Feyre, arriving at the Dawn Court · A Court of Wings and Ruin

Thesan's wings. Feathered ones.

The winged faerie of the Dawn Court, and its small aerial legion, the way the Illyrians are the Night Court's. Bird wings in tropical colours, golden armour, males and females in the ranks alike. Their captain is the High Lord's lover. Amarantha used to pull their feathers out.

Who they are

A small legion in the air.

Every High Lord has something. Rhys has the Illyrians. Thesan has the Peregryns: a winged faerie people of the Dawn Court who fly as his aerial legion, a small one. Humanoid, with bird-like wings feathered in tropical colours, in golden armour. Males and females serve in it alike, which is more than you can say for the war-camps. They're distant kin to the Seraphim, the winged legion Drakon led in the War. Same idea, different mountain.

The captain

Thesan's, in every sense.

The legion's captain is also captain of Thesan's guard, and Thesan's lover. The books never name him. At the High Lords' meeting at the sunstone palace he stayed at Thesan's shoulder and watched the room. Under Amarantha the relationship was kept quiet, for his safety. After her, it wasn't. He has his own page, because of course he does.

Amarantha

The feathers.

Under the Mountain, when a Peregryn displeased her, Amarantha had the feathers ripped out one by one. She had a dress made of them. It's one line in a book about a war, and it's the reason Thesan said nothing for the whole of her reign. We think about that dress more than we'd like.

On the page

Wings and Ruin, and a mention after.

They arrive with Thesan in A Court of Wings and Ruin, at the meeting of the High Lords and then in the war against Hybern, and they get a mention in A Court of Silver Flames. That's the lot. The Dawn Court is the court the series keeps promising, and we are still waiting at the door.

Their own

The court, the High Lord, the captain, and the cousins with wings.
