A temple of priestesses · One of three
Sangravah
“The music was always my favorite part of it.”
Gwyn, on the dusk services · A Court of Silver Flames
Where Gwyn and Catrin were raised. Where one of the Cauldron's feet was kept. Hybern came for the foot.
A temple of priestesses, with sunrise movements and dusk services and twins braiding bracelets in the kitchen. Then the soldiers. We know how this one ends, and we still flinch.
What it was
Sunrise movements. Dusk services. Bracelets.
A temple, and the girls raised in it became its priestesses. Gwyn was still an acolyte. Every sunrise they went through a set of ancient movements, not for fighting, for calming the mind, and groundings after to settle back into the world. The movements took them out of their bodies, she says. Let them commune with the Mother. At dusk there were services, and the music was her favourite part. In between, she and Catrin braided bracelets with little charms full of wishes. The wish came true when the bracelet fell off. That's the whole place, before. We're holding onto it for as long as we can.
What was kept here
A foot of the Cauldron.
Long before the High Lords, the Cauldron's three feet were pulled off it to dull its power, and each was hidden at a temple: Cesere, Sangravah, Itica. The Bone Carver told Rhys and Feyre that much. So when the King of Hybern wanted the Cauldron whole, he sent soldiers to all three. At Cesere every priestess died and the trove was looted; Mor brought that news to Rhys. Sangravah's turn is the one we know from the inside.
The raid
The children went down the trapdoor. Gwyn stayed.
Hybern's soldiers came into the temple. Gwyn got the children down through a trapdoor in the kitchen and stayed behind to cover it, and when they asked where the children were she wouldn't say. They beheaded Catrin in front of her, with two other priestesses. What they did to Gwyn after that she tells Nesta on the mountain, and we leave it there. Azriel reached her and killed them all. Mor took her to the library beneath the House of Wind, and she didn't come out for two years.
Where it is
People ask. Here's what the books say.
The books up to Silver Flames never put Sangravah on a map. What they give: Cesere, the first temple hit, is a northern outpost of the Night Court, and when Rhys spoke of the raids it was Cesere he called his. Sangravah is somewhere Azriel could reach and Mor could carry a survivor home from. That's the honest answer, and we'd rather give you that than a guess.
