The Night Court
The Night Court
“A hidden city where the stars hang low — kept out of the world's sight for five thousand years.”
The Night Court of Prythian
One territory that holds cruelty and starlight at once.
The largest of Prythian's seven High Courts, ruled by Rhysand from the mountainous northern reaches. The brutal Court of Nightmares is the part he lets the world see — and it keeps the luminous Court of Dreams hidden behind it. We knew about Velaris long before anyone else was allowed to.

The Decoy and the Dream
Dreams in the light, nightmares beneath
Let the world keep believing the Hewn City is all there is. That's the point. Rhysand rules the largest of Prythian's seven courts, and he lets everyone fix their eyes on the brutal Court of Nightmares carved into a hollowed mountain in the east — the decoy, the deterrent, the thing that keeps people away. Meanwhile the real one sits open to the sky: Velaris, the City of Starlight, the Court of Dreams, a luminous river-city warded and glamoured out of sight for five thousand years. The strongest High Lord in history hid the most beautiful thing he had so no one could take it. We knew.
The Holdings
War-camp to dreamscape
Everything else lives between those two poles. The red-stone House of Wind looms over Velaris. The Illyrian Steppes and war-camps grind the winged caste into warriors. The ancient mountain Prison keeps the Old Gods bound. One territory holding cruelty and starlight, war-camp and dreamscape, all at once — and somehow it works. Of course it does. It's theirs.
