Connall

His twin swore an unbreakable oath to Maeve to protect him. Years later Maeve used that same oath to make him drive a knife through his own heart.

Connall is Fenrys's twin brother and one of Maeve's blood-sworn Cadre, from Throne of Glass — the quiet dark to Fenrys's loud gold, a black wolf to a white one. He is barely on the page, and his death is the single cruelest thing Maeve ever does — the wound that makes Fenrys who he becomes.

What he loves

Quieter, not lesser

Fenrys's twin ran darker and said less, but the short list of what he'd die for had a single name at the top.

  • His brother

Fenrys. Above the oath, above Maeve, above his own life — and he'd have called that order obvious.

  • The twin bond

Blood-twinned and oath-twinned both. What ran between them was the one thing Maeve never fully commanded.

  • The steady dark

He ran quieter and grimmer than his brother, and never seemed to begrudge Fenrys the light.

  • Loyalty without noise

His love didn't perform. It just stood where it was needed and stayed there.

His heart

The brother he'd choose over the oath

Everything Connall was bound to, he was bound to by force — except the one bond he'd have chosen, which was his brother's. Maeve understood that better than anyone, and used it accordingly. His story ends the way hers so often made them end: cruelly, with the person he loved most powerless to reach him.
