Sorrel

In a coven that called Manon the ice and Asterin the fire, Sorrel was the stone — the thing that goes underneath whatever must not be allowed to move.

Third of the Thirteen. Forbidden from helping at the Crossing, handed Asterin's rank as somebody else's punishment, and second-to-last to Yield at Orynth.

What she loves

Stone where the others are fire

Third of the Thirteen, and the last thing anyone gets past to reach Manon's back.

  • The Thirteen

She doesn't say much. She has also never, in a hundred years, left a flank open.

  • Manon

Her Wing Leader's back is her post. She has held it against things that would break a lesser witch, and never mentioned it once.

  • The rearguard

Someone rides last and watches the sky behind the coven. That someone is always her.

  • The Wastes

A homeland she has never seen, that she'd hold a line to the last breath to hand the rest of them.

Her heart

The line at their backs

Asterin is the coven's fire; Sorrel is the stone it stands on. She loves the Thirteen without noise, without needing to be seen, without ever once giving way — the immovable thing between her sisters and whatever is coming for them. At Orynth she gave with the rest of them, and the line held.

We're Caffeine and Curses. The Library started as my design research — I can't put Manon on a shirt without knowing which way the iron teeth snap — so we keep the notes here where everyone can use them. The pages are fan-made, not official; the licensed designs are in the shop.
