Falkan Ennar

He traded twenty years of his life for a bolt of cloth, and spent those same twenty years searching for a niece he'd never met. He gets both back in the same war.

Falkan Ennar is a travelling merchant of Adarlan and a latent shape-shifter, from The Assassin's Blade and Tower of Dawn — a man aged to near-fifty by a spider's price, whose stifled magic wakes on the Southern Continent, and who turns out to be Lysandra's only living blood.

What he loves

One of the last, finally of use.

His people are all but gone from the world, and the gift they carried didn't go with them.

  • Becoming anything

A shape for any need — his people's oldest gift.

  • His own kind

Shapeshifters, nearly gone from the world. He carries what's left.

  • A use that matters

The gift finally aimed at something worth it: the war.

  • Scouting unseen

Through lines no soldier in his own face could cross.

His heart

The ones who are gone

Shapeshifters were hunted almost out of existence, and Falkan is one of the handful still standing — the same rare kind as Lysandra. He could have kept the gift hidden and stayed quietly alive. Instead he spent it on a war that needed exactly what only his people could do. If the line ends with him, it ends having mattered.

We're Caffeine and Curses. The Library started as my design research — I can't put Manon on a shirt without knowing which way the iron teeth snap — so we keep the notes here where everyone can use them. The pages are fan-made, not official; the licensed designs are in the shop.
