Vaughan

Five of Maeve's Cadre get scenes, deaths, oaths broken. The sixth mostly gets sent somewhere the story isn't.

Vaughan is the sixth and least-seen warrior of Maeve's Cadre, from Throne of Glass — an osprey-formed Fae blood-sworn alongside Rowan, Lorcan, Gavriel, Fenrys and Connall, who spends the war off-page in the far north. He is held longest and quietest of them all, and freed only when Maeve finally dies.

What he loves

Wild and unaccounted for

The cadre's ghost — rarely at Maeve's court, never easy in it, and most himself somewhere no one could find him.

  • The wild

A shifter most himself out past the edge of the map, alone and answering to no one.

  • Solitude

Not aloof for show. He simply preferred his own quiet to the politics of Maeve's court.

  • His brothers

Distant, never quite absent. Five centuries in the same company counts, even for a man always leaving.

  • The open

The oath leashed him to a court he'd never have chosen. Unbound, he'd simply have been gone.

His heart

The wild he was made for

Of the six, Vaughan wore the oath worst — because being bound to anyone at all was the opposite of what he was. He answered when Maeve called and left the instant he could; the rest of the time he was somewhere no leash reached. What he loved was never a person or a place at court. It was the horizon, and the right to walk toward it unowned.

We're Caffeine and Curses. The Library started as my design research — I can't put Manon on a shirt without knowing which way the iron teeth snap — so we keep the notes here where everyone can use them. The pages are fan-made, not official; the licensed designs are in the shop.
