Someone has to hold the rear. At Orynth, that was Sorrel — and this was what carried her there, and did not turn.

The wyvern that carried Sorrel — Manon's Third, and the steadiest of the Thirteen.

Every Ironteeth witch is matched to a wyvern bred in the pits of the Ferian Gap, iron-fanged and welded with spikes until rider and mount move as one thing. Sorrel held the rearguard at Manon's back to the end — and over Orynth, when the Thirteen gave the Yielding, she fell with her sisters and their wyverns; only Manon and Abraxos came out of that sky.
