Houlun

The danger finally had a name because one old woman by a fire still remembered the story everyone else had let themselves forget.

Houlun is the hearth-mother of the Eridun rukhin and a sacred Story Keeper of the Southern Continent, in Tower of Dawn — the woman Prince Sartaq counts as his true mother, whose memory holds the histories no one else kept.

What she loves

Keeper of the old things.

The hearth-mother of the aerie — half rider, half memory, keeper of the histories most of the empire chose to forget.

  • The ruks

The great birds she has flown a lifetime. There is no her without the sky and the wingbeat.

  • The old stories

The Valg wars. The Fae. The sttörmhïr. She keeps them so the young do not learn them the hard way.

  • The mountains

Home is high and cold and hers — the aerie she tends and the riders it raises.

  • The young riders

Sartaq among them. She trains them sharp and sends them out. That is love, the aerie way.

Her heart

The old stories, and the ruks that carry them

She is the one who remembers when everyone else moved on. The Valg, the Fae, the buried truths the empire treats as bedtime tales — she knows exactly why they are not. She carries them the way she flies: like it matters, like someone has to. And she hands them down to the next rider before her own turn to forget ever comes.

We're Caffeine and Curses. The Library started as my design research — I can't put Manon on a shirt without knowing which way the iron teeth snap — so we keep the notes here where everyone can use them. The pages are fan-made, not official; the licensed designs are in the shop.
