Then iron — iron nullifies Fae fire — an iron mask, an iron coffin on a sliver of island in a mist-veiled river. For months Cairn tortures her chained to a table while Maeve's healers heal her only to re-injure her, until every scar is erased and her history with it. And she keeps Fenrys there in wolf form, blood-bound, forced to watch all of it and forbidden to move.

ATHRIL'S RING

The sword that kills her and the ring that finishes her both belonged to the man she murdered.

In the first war she turned on her lover Athril for Silba's ring — immunity from the Valg — and killed him; he died with the ring hidden inside Goldryn, and Brannon carried both away and buried them. She hunted that ring for an age and never found it. At the end Fenrys drives Goldryn through her heart, Aelin slips Silba's ring onto her finger where it burns her Valg essence away, and beheads her. The instant she and Erawan die, every Valg soldier drops dead. She loses to the two things she wanted most, wielded by the people she made.
