THE MAKING OF CELAENA
Summoned by a ghost to a dying child, he offered her a choice that was never a choice.
Queen Elena's spirit led him to the half-dead eight-year-old princess by the Florine River, the night her family was slaughtered. He offered her death, or a life as his assassin — and stripped the Amulet of Orynth, a Wyrdkey, off her near-frozen body while she was too far gone to stop him. He raised her as Celaena Sardothien, the most feared assassin on the continent, and personally taught her to torture in a way that causes maximum pain without leaving a permanent scar. Everything Aelin later becomes, for good and for terrible, he built.
THE CYCLE
He beat her unconscious, then bought her armour with the blades built in.
When Celaena and Sam Cortland freed the slaves at Skull's Bay against his orders, he beat her until she passed out and made Sam watch, then beat Sam too. He exiled her to the Silent Assassins in the Red Desert for a letter of recommendation. And when she came home he apologised, and buried her in gifts — a bespoke assassin's suit with retractable blades, fine gowns, a prestige contract. That is the whole engine of him: the fist and the present, delivered by the same hand, so that the person on the receiving end can never quite decide which one is real.
SAM
The one thing she loved, he took on purpose.
When Celaena paid off her debt to leave the Guild and run with Sam, Arobynn spent that exact gold to win the courtesan Lysandra's Bidding — purely to wound her. Then he tipped off the crime lord Rourke Farran, who captured, tortured and killed Sam, because Arobynn does not like to share what he owns. He delivered the news of the death himself, then engineered Celaena's arrest and nine life sentences to the Endovier salt mines. And he murdered Wesley, Lysandra's guard, for trying to stop it.
THE RECKONING
It takes two women he tried to own to finally end him.
Years on he finds her again, reveals he knows she is Aelin, and dangles Aedion's rescue in exchange for a captured Valg. He sends almond oil to mark her in his scent against the Fae male now in her house. At a dinner he slides a Valg ring onto her finger and licks her blood to control her — not knowing she'd swapped it for a fake. And the end is poetry: Lysandra, in his bed, cuts his throat with the knife he keeps under his own pillow; Aelin beheads the corpse to be sure; and the will she had secretly switched weeks earlier hands his whole fortune to the war for Terrasen.

The child by the Florine
Led to her by Elena's ghost, he finds the half-dead eight-year-old Aelin in the snow and takes her — keeping her family's Wyrdkey amulet for himself.
Celaena Sardothien
He rebuilds the orphaned princess into the deadliest assassin on the continent, and trains her to hurt without leaving a scar.
Skull's Bay
He sends her to close a slave deal with Rolfe; she and Sam free the slaves instead, defying him.
The beating
On their return he beats Celaena unconscious and forces Sam to watch, then beats Sam too.
The Red Desert
He exiles her to the Silent Assassins under the Mute Master for a letter of recommendation, a control device dressed as training.
The love-bomb
She comes home and he apologises, drowning her in gowns, blades and a prestige contract — the other half of the cycle.
Sam
He has Sam captured, tortured and killed by Rourke Farran, because he will not share what he considers his.
Endovier
He engineers her arrest and nine life sentences to the salt mines, and murders Wesley for trying to break her out.
The Valg bargain
Years later he trades Aedion's rescue for a living Valg and tries to mark Aelin with his almond-oil scent.
The fake ring
At dinner he rings her finger and drinks her blood to own her — not knowing she has substituted a counterfeit.
The pillow-knife
Lysandra cuts his throat with the blade he keeps under his own pillow while he sleeps; Aelin beheads the body.
The switched will
His entire fortune, secretly forged over to Aelin weeks before, ends up funding the war for Terrasen.

A collector's things — including the people.

- The pillow-knifeThe blade he slept with beneath his own head out of a lifetime of paranoia. It is the one Lysandra uses on him — his cruelty, his caution, his own knife, all at once.
- The almond oilHis signature scent, sent to Aelin to anoint herself in as a possession-mark aimed at Rowan. Rowan wears it too, so she never has to carry the mark alone.
