The glass castle is the royal seat of Adarlan, in the heart of Rifthold — the crystalline palace at the centre of Throne of Glass, an enormous structure of towers, bridges and domed ballrooms that the conquering King built on top of the original stone castle. Above the glassline: the court, the glass throne, the royal library, ballrooms of dancing courtiers who have no idea what holds them up. Below it: the stone bones of the old keep, the dungeons, and a sealed tomb nobody remembers. The whole thing is a magic trick, raised on the exact spot where the worst secret in Erilea is buried.

What happened here

She won her freedom in it, and then it came down.

This is where Celaena won her freedom the hard way — thirteen weeks and twenty-three rivals in the King's Champion competition, while Cain quietly murdered the losers and drew Wyrdmarks in their blood to summon a ridderak up from the clock tower. Poisoned at the banquet, held together by Nehemia's markings and the ghost of Elena Galathynius, she killed him on the great-hall floor and Chaol finished it. And it's where the illusion finally fell: Dorian, collared and then free, killing his father on the glass throne — the palace shattering as the magic-strangling spell broke, until Aelin melted a storm of falling shards into a wall so it wouldn't rain down on the city.

The castle was the story Adarlan told about itself: look how bright, look how high, don't look down. Everything cruel about the empire lived in the floors nobody admired — the dungeons where Kaltain planned her revenge, the clock tower that erased magic from the world, the tomb where the first queen had been screaming a warning the whole time. When it broke, it didn't fall like a building. It fell like a cover story.
