Everyone remembers the professors who threatened Violet. Emetterio is the one who taught her how not to die — how to turn a smaller, weaker frame into leverage instead of a death sentence.

Emetterio drills the Riders Quadrant in hand-to-hand and oversees the weekly challenge matches and Gauntlet climbs — the physical schooling that decides who's still standing. Where the mat should have crushed Violet for her size, he's one of the few who taught her to weaponise it: technique over mass, angle over strength. Unglamorous, and the reason she lives.

For most of Violet's time at Basgiath, Emetterio is simply part of the command structure — the hard instructor doing his job well. As the truth of the war surfaces, his sympathies move with it, one more Basgiath fixture who turns out to have a limit. He stays at the margins of every book — a small role with one outsized consequence: the cadet he taught to fight small.
