Red daggertail · Sloane Mairi's dragon · Liam's breed, made flesh again
Thoirt
A midsize red daggertail with a torn wing — the same breed her brother rode. Sloane bonds the echo of Liam's Deigh, and nobody in the valley misses the rhyme.
Sloane's red daggertail: gold-eyed, one wing torn, and the channel for the most frightening gift in the books — siphoning, the power to move life itself from one body to another.
The echo · Liam's breed
Same colour, same tail, same wound in the wing.
Thoirt is a red daggertail — the breed Liam rode, down to a tear in one wing — and Sloane bonding him is the series putting the cost of Resson back in the air. The bond gives a grieving girl the strength to survive her first year. The rhyme with Deigh is the whole point.
The current · What he channels
The same gift the venin use — with no scar left behind.
Through the bond Sloane siphons, moving power and life itself between bodies. It's the venin's mechanism minus the corruption — which is why, at the wardstone, a general's life could flow through Sloane's hands to hold a nation. The channel for the worst sacrifice and the most tender rescue both.
Her people
The brother's breed, and the sacrifice she carried.
