- The southern end of campus, across a covered bridge from the Riders — on the path down to the brig and the Archives.

- A mender feels the wound they close. Mercy in here is paid for in someone else's pain.

- Nolon Colbersy — the college's most senior mender, in his eighties — and his most frequent patient, Violet.
