Infantry Quadrant

Biggest quadrant · no dragon · the floor

Infantry Quadrant

The biggest quadrant and the one no one writes fanfic about — no dragon, no signet, just the ground war and a very long walk.

Navy blue, ground troops, the place the entrance exam sends everyone who didn't make rider, scribe or healer.

The culture

Dragons at the top, foot soldiers at the bottom — and this is the bottom.

It's the biggest quadrant precisely because it's the default: where the exam sorts you when nothing else claims you. No signet, no bond, no glory in the Battle Brief. Even a crown prince came through here — Halden Tauri trained in the mud to prove he was more than a palace, no dragon to make it look good.

The cost

It costs your anonymity — the story walks straight past you.

Every rider you love is standing on a hierarchy these cadets hold up from the bottom, and the book barely stops to look. That's the price of the navy: no signet, no songs, no chapter of your own. But somebody's fighting the ground war so the riders have a country to come home to. Respect the navy blue.

A year in the Infantry Quadrant

The grind nobody writes down.

The Infantry Quadrant has no parapet, no Threshing, no oath — no signature trial the story stops to watch. Its year is the grind nobody writes down. Here it is anyway.

  1. 01

    The default

Conscription Day funnels every cadet toward rider, scribe or healer — and the Infantry Quadrant absorbs everyone the others don't claim. No trial to pass. You're simply sorted here.

  2. 02

    The drills

Ground-war training on the fields by the northern turret: no dragon, no bond, no signet. Even a crown prince came through it — Halden Tauri trained in the mud to prove he was more than a palace.

  3. 03

    The line

You graduate into the standing army that holds every border while the riders get the songs. The whole glittering hierarchy rests on this floor — and the book barely looks down.

The File

Uniform
Navy blue. No leathers, no cream — just the ground.
Signet
None. No dragon, no bond, no signet. This is the floor of Navarre's whole hierarchy.
What you become
A soldier — conventional ground troops, the standing army beneath the dragons.
Size
The largest quadrant at Basgiath, by a lot. Someone has to be the army.
Located
Ground-level training fields by the northern turret and tunnel.
Entry
Fail the entrance exam or miss rider, and this is where you land. It's the default.
Notable
Crown Prince Halden Tauri trained here on purpose — and Violet, if one swerve had gone the ordinary way.
