Chief scribe of Navarre · Curator of the Scribe Quadrant · the man who decided which truths survived · propaganda in cream robes
Lewis Markham
He taught Violet the Archives were sacred — that temples can be rebuilt but books cannot be rewritten — while quietly writing whole peoples out of them. The scariest villain in the series never raises his voice. He just edits.
Colonel Lewis Markham — head archivist, author of the official national history, and the curator who filed venin and the gryphon fliers under 'never happened.'
The Curator · Who he is
Whoever keeps the record keeps the power.
Chief scribe of Navarre and keeper of the Archives — the calm, reserved man in cream robes who decides which events get written down and which get buried. He co-teaches Battle Brief, wrote the official national history, and once groomed Violet as his most promising student before her mother forced her to the parapet. The quietest authority at Basgiath, and the most total.
The edit · What he did
He didn't burn the books. He curated them.
Markham's crime isn't destruction — it's omission. Venin, the gryphon fliers, the real shape of the border war: all scrubbed from the state record and filed under things that never happened. He weaponised the one institution Violet trusted more than people. For a girl raised to revere the truth, learning that the archivist is the liar is its own kind of parapet.
His record
