The Archives · beneath the Scribe Quadrant · the vault of everything
The Archives
“There is nothing more sacred than the Archives. Even temples can be rebuilt, but books cannot be rewritten.”
Fourth Wing — Rebecca Yarros
The one place in the fortress that ever felt like home — and the one place that proves the whole kingdom's been editing the truth.
Nearly every book in Navarre, stacked twenty feet high beneath the Scribe Quadrant. Plus the ones they scrubbed, and a vault under the vault that only royal blood can open.
At a glance
- What it is
- Navarre's central library — a copy or original of almost every book in the kingdom, in cavernous stacks under the Scribe Quadrant.
- The look
- Twenty-foot shelves, marble floors, floating mage lights, and hooded scribes dressed to disappear into the tomes. Colder the deeper you go.
- Why it matters
- Whoever keeps the record keeps the truth. Markham kept the record.
- What's missing
- Every entry on venin, wyvern, and Fables of the Barren — quietly erased, the histories re-transcribed two centuries ago.
- The seal
- A ten-foot vault door locks it airtight at seven o'clock for twelve hours. The sealing magic doesn't care if you're still inside.
- Underneath
- The Royal Vault — warded to royal blood, holding the First Six journals that say how to raise the wards.
- What it means to her
- Violet still feels her scribe father here. It's the only room in Basgiath that isn't trying to kill her.

We're Caffeine and Curses. The Library started as my design research — I can't put the Archives on a shirt without knowing the way in is a vault door that seals at seven and stays shut for twelve hours — so we keep the notes here where everyone can use them. The pages are fan-made, not official; the licensed designs are in the shop.
