Panchek is the ceremonial face of Basgiath — welcoming new cadets, congratulating the ones who survive, presiding over Threshing and graduation — while the real disciplinary power sits with Varrish, who reports to him. Ambitious, deferential, performative. The kind of authority that's always looking slightly past you to whoever outranks you.

Onyx Storm recasts every one of those bland formations: Panchek had been leaking information to the venin the whole time. The passivity wasn't weakness — it was camouflage. On reread, the figurehead who never seemed to do anything was doing plenty. You just weren't meant to notice.
