Mira Sorrengail · The full story

The rules-follower who walked off the front line.

Everything Violet knew about staying alive on the parapet, she learned in fifteen minutes from the sister who was sure she'd die anyway.

The eldest

She went first.

Mira crossed the parapet years before Violet did, and walked out of the deadliest quadrant in Navarre with three years behind her and one scar. The elder sister who makes surviving look like a decision — and the one who carried the Sorrengail name after a dead father and a brother they thought they'd lost too.

Love as logistics

The corset was made of dragon.

Teine's scales sewn into a vest so a blade can't finish what Violet's joints start. Boots that grip, daggers in body-sheaths, a crown braid nobody can grab mid-fight, and 'avoid Xaden, find Dain' on the way out the turret. She told Violet she was only doing what Brennan did for her. We are not okay about that part.

The ward

She holds the line.

Her signet doesn't throw fire — it extends Navarre's wards, reinforcing the barrier and dropping a shield over her squad in the field. Sounds quiet, right up until the wards start to fail and she's the rider they call for. Decorated for valor behind enemy lines — and at Cordyn, under enough pressure, she conjures one from nothing for the first time.

The turn

She comes around. She always does.

All the way inside the machine — top of her class, decorated, a model officer — right up until she learned what their own mother buried about the venin. Then she deserted, flew riders to Aretia, and clocked her not-actually-dead brother in the nose before she'd let herself hug him. She comes around. She always comes around.

You don't need the recap. But since we're both rereading anyway—

The rules-follower who walked off the front line.

You get her for fifteen minutes and she rearranges your whole survival. The elder Sorrengail sister went up the parapet first, came back with three years and exactly one scar, and turned herself into the thing Navarre calls when the wards start to bend. Then she found out what her own mother buried about the venin — and the model officer, top of her class, decorated for valor, walked off the front line and flew straight into the rebellion. Two books, one truth: the person who loves you hardest is the one who arms you. She comes around. She always does.

  1. 01

    The record

Top of her class, three years in the deadliest quadrant in Navarre, one scar — the one Teine gave her at Threshing. Decorated for valor behind enemy lines, the Order of the Talon for taking out an enemy battery. She made surviving look like a decision.

  2. 02

    Conscription Day

Fifteen minutes to turn her fragile little sister into someone who lives: a corset with Teine's scales sewn in so a blade can't finish what Violet's joints start, boots that grip, daggers in body-sheaths, a crown braid nobody can grab. Then the send-off — don't die, I'd hate to be an only child.

  3. 03

    Montserrat

Violet's squad wins a trip to the outpost where Mira's posted. She hands over her book of fables — which turn out to be load-bearing — and then the gryphons come. Violet's whole world stops until the word comes back: Mira's fine. 'You didn't die! You're not an only child!'

  4. 04

    The cover-up

Iron Flame. The model officer learns what her own mother and Navarre's leadership buried: the venin are real, the war never ended, and the corps she bled for has been lying to it the whole time. For a rules-follower, the floor doesn't crack. It drops out.

  5. 05

    Aretia

She deserts. Flies riders off the front line to a rebellion she wasn't supposed to know existed. And there — five years dead — is Brennan, alive the entire time. She breaks his nose before she lets herself hug him. Fair.

  6. 06

    When the wards fall

Jack Barlowe brings down the Basgiath wardstone and everything the wards held back pours in. A ward-extender is exactly who you want when the wards collapse. She holds what she can — and the quiet defensive signet nobody feared becomes the backbone of the fight.

In her words

In her own words.

“I love you, Violet. Remember everything I've told you. Don't become another name on the death roll.”

Fourth Wing — Rebecca Yarros

“He might wield shadows, Violet, but give him his way, and you'll become one.”

Fourth Wing — Rebecca Yarros

“And look at you! You didn't die! You're not an only child!”

We're Caffeine and Curses. The Library started as my design research — I can't put Mira on a shirt without knowing the vest is Teine's own shed scales, shrunk down and sewn in — and Teine is green — so we keep the notes here where everyone can use them. The pages are fan-made, not official; the licensed designs are in the shop.
