Lieutenant Colonel Nolon Colbersy — in his mid-eighties, the most senior mender in Navarre, gentle to the bone, and quietly certain that some things can't be healed, only held.

Mending — knitting shattered bone and torn flesh back to whole — is the scarcest signet in the kingdom, and Nolon is its most senior holder. In a college built to kill its students, he's the man in the one quadrant trying to keep them breathing. Decades of it have worn him thin: a powerful healer, and a failing one, running out of years.
The limit · What he learned
He spent months on Jack Barlowe and came back with the worst answer.
Nolon is the realm's authority on what mending can't fix. Handed a venin-corrupted soul to cure, he worked it for months and concluded there's no cure — only control. He never wanted the marked children conscripted, argued against it, and then had to patch up the survivors anyway. Conscience and duty pulling opposite directions, in a very old man.
