The Barrens · the Continent · what the venin leave behind
The Barrens
Cracked grey earth, ash in the air, nothing growing and nothing left — the proof that everything Navarre says about the venin is, for once, not a lie.
The drained dead scar on the Continent's eastern edge: a magic-stripped wasteland that is less a place you visit than a warning you carry. This is what the wards exist to stop, and what the whole world becomes if the dark wielders win.
The dead ground
The one thing about the venin nobody had to exaggerate.
We're rarely taken into the Barrens, and we don't need to be — the sight of it does all the work. Venin channel power straight out of the earth, and the earth dies: soil to ash, colour to grey, everything living crumbling outward. The desiccation that killed people at Resson, scaled up to a whole region.
The warning
Why the wards exist at all.
The Barrens is why the wardstone burns and why Navarre built a border it never lets down. Long before the venin are real to anyone at Basgiath, the drained lands are already there — a finished example of what losing looks like. The wards aren't paranoia. They're pointed straight at this.
Tied to the Barrens
