Sliseag
A temperamental red of the most aggressive line, and he chose the patient one — Sawyer, on his second Threshing, after a whole year of no dragon at all. Persistence, rewarded.
Sawyer's red swordtail: scarlet, golden-eyed, blade-tailed. The dragon he took a wyvern's bite for — and the reason he built himself a leg that could fly again.
The second try · Who he chose
No dragon the first year. He fixed that.
Sawyer did a whole first year in the quadrant with no dragon and repeated it rather than go home — and Sliseag chose him on the second attempt. A temperamental red picking the steadiest engineer in the room. The pairing is persistence written in scales.
Basgiath · The bite he took for him
He'd tell you it wasn't a hard call.
At the Battle of Basgiath a wyvern lunged for Sliseag and Sawyer kicked at its jaws to keep it off him — and took the bite himself, his leg gone below the knee. Then he forged a metal one and got back on him. The dragon he shielded, still in the air.
