The venin's beasts · dragon-cousins with no soul · the standing army beyond the wards
Wyvern
Not born, made. The venin build them, drop a runed onyx stone in for a heart, and pour stolen power in — soulless constructs that die the instant their maker does.
The horde Violet meets at Resson: dragon-like, gaunt, hive-minded, and vulnerable to the one thing dragons have that they never will — real dragonfire, and a rider who chose to be there.
Made, not chosen · What they are
The dark inversion of a dragon.
A dragon chooses a rider and gives power; a wyvern is built by a venin who pours power in and takes nothing back. Runed onyx for a heart, a hive-mind for a will, no soul at all. Everything the dragon bond is, the wyvern is the hollow mirror of it.
Resson onward · The horde
The lie, walking.
Violet meets them first at Resson — the whole argument that Navarre's quiet border was always a fiction. They die when their maker dies and burn under real dragonfire: the manufactured army against the ones who were chosen. At Basgiath, a thousand wait for Baide's blood to drop the wardstone.
