Jack's orange scorpiontail, his fifth rider, and the dragon whose death drops the wardstone. The smallest dragon in the story, doing the largest and ugliest work in it.

An aggressive breed chose an aggressive rider, and then stayed loyal past the point he ever earned it — loyal enough to help hide that he'd walked away from half a mountain. The loyalty isn't the tragedy. What he did with it is.

The betrayal · What he took

A rider cannot survive his dragon's death. He did.

At the wardstone he drove a dagger between her scales, and her blood snuffed the flame that held the wards — then he walked away from her death, which no rider can do, which is the whole reveal in one image. We don't forgive it. We're not meant to.

Her end

Rider: Jack Barlowe. His fifth. The four before him tell you something.
Loyalty: She helped conceal that he lived after the mountain came down. That's devotion.
Notable: Her blood put out the wardstone's flame — because Jack spilled it.
Status: Dead. Killed by her own rider to open Navarre to the horde.
