Samara

Dark-red stone, snow that never melts, and the reputation of the worst outpost the kingdom can send you to. Naturally, it's where they station the people they can't quite kill outright.

Navarre's easternmost fortress, twice the size of Athebyne or Montserrat, set into the Esben peaks where Krovla meets Braevick — Xaden and Garrick's Iron Flame posting, and a frontline venin staging ground by Onyx Storm.

The hard edge

Where the war stops pretending to be an academy.

Samara doesn't try to be anything but grim — blood-red walls, snow on the peaks through summer, the nearest village a long way off. It's the posting Navarre uses to bury people at the front without technically executing them. Cold, exposed, and exactly as bad as its name.

This is where Xaden and Garrick ride out Iron Flame, holding the kingdom's worst border. The attack on Samara is what drags Violet across it, and by Onyx Storm the fortress has become a venin staging post — the ground where Theophanie surfaces again. The frontier, doing what frontiers do.

Kingdom: Navarre — easternmost stronghold of the Southern Wing, roughly a day's flight from Basgiath.
What it is: A mammoth fortress of dark-red stone. The same outpost layout as Athebyne and Montserrat, built to twice the scale.
The reputation: Reputed as the cruelest of Navarre's outposts. Isolated, snow-locked even in summer, unromantic to the bone.
Who's posted here: Xaden Riorson and Garrick Tavis, through Iron Flame — holding the most contested border Navarre has.
What happened here: The Samara attack that pulls Violet across the border; a venin staging post and a Theophanie encounter by Onyx Storm.
Status: Still holding the eastern edge. Nobody's idea of a good draw.
